Do you issue or fill or write cheques?
This question is to everyone with a bank account.
In every cheque there is/are either 1 line or 2 lines kept to write the figure or the amount in words.
At the beginning of the line, is either of the following is written.
"Rupees" ________________
or
"Rupees ___________________
{in words}"
Now, if you are paying your mobile bill or you landline or electricity bill say Rs. 772/-, the normal procedure is to write.
"Seven hundred and seventy-two only."
The word Rupees is always there printed.
Now my suggestion to everyone is to use "2 words" in place of "1 word", i.e. as follows:
"Seven hundred and seventy-two in words"
If the words "in words" are not printed on the cheque => then no harm in filling/completing that which is missing.
If the words "in words" are printed on the cheque => then no harm in repeating what is right.
About the word "only" used with the currency.
I believe, there is no amount that is only a small amount. A recent increase in price of Rs. 5 for petrol and Rs. 3 for diesel (correct me if I am mistaken) less the slight decrease in sales tax has pinched all the customers and no one would deny that I think.
And the first thing I feel everyone needs to do is to stop devalualing the currency.
Perhaps a business-man might find my idea of using 2 words in place of 1 word a foolish one but then whether he has a place for ethics or the word "ethics" is present in his dictionary is questionable.
